Hello everybody. Today, Miraculous Traveling in Thailand has the news about Candle Procession of E-Sarn Region to publicize. It is the festival held in Ubon Ratchathani to invite tourists to observe the Candle Procession of Ubon Ratchathani, 2013 for preserving the custom of Ubon Ratchathani people and visiting the land of Buddhist art. The festival will be held from 1st – 31st July, 2013. First of all, let’s see the meaning of “Heet” and “Aey” as these two words are used in this tradition.

Heet” means the custom, tradition, and norms. In local language, this is called “festival for making merits”. The festivals for making merits of E-Sarn people are in all 12 months from the 1st month to the 12th month. As they are all festivals for making merits, “preserving the custom of Ubon Ratchathani people” means the preservation of good customs of Ubon Ratchathani people. This is the eighth custom of “merit of the Buddhist Lent Day”.

Aey” is the Ubon Ratchathani’s word. It is the verb meaning to decorate, for example, aey reau = to decorate boats and aey nah = to make-up. Therefore, the word of “Aey Meaung Reaung Roj” means to decorate the city to be beautiful.
